Job Responsibilities: Driving Excellence in Analytical Chemistry
This crucial role demands a highly competent individual who can expertly manage and perform complex chemical analyses. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Advanced Chemical Analysis: Conducting routine and complex analyses of food and water samples using a range of advanced analytical instrumentation. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS/MS)
- Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS)
- Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)
- High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Method Development and Validation: Developing, validating, and verifying new and existing analytical methods to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance: Maintaining strict adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 standards in all laboratory activities, ensuring the use of valid and updated testing methods. This includes proactive participation in quality control and quality assurance initiatives.
- Troubleshooting and Corrective Actions: Investigating non-conformities, conducting thorough root cause analyses, and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Mentorship and Training: Providing guidance and training to junior analysts, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the laboratory team.
- Method Innovation: Contributing to the development and implementation of new testing methods to expand the laboratory’s capabilities and enhance its service offerings. This includes exploring and implementing cutting-edge analytical techniques.
- Data Management and Reporting: Generating accurate, comprehensive, and timely reports based on analytical findings, ensuring adherence to all reporting guidelines and regulatory requirements. This includes effective communication of results to clients and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications: The Ideal Candidate Profile
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Education: MSc or BS (Hons.) in Chemistry, with a strong preference for Analytical Chemistry.
- Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, with a proven track record of performing food and water chemistry analysis.
- Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge and practical experience in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining sophisticated analytical instruments such as GC-MS/MS, LC-MS, ICP/MS, AAS, and HPLC. Demonstrated proficiency in advanced analytical techniques is essential.
- Methodological Proficiency: A solid understanding of analytical method validation, verification, statistical evaluation, and quality control procedures.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, enabling you to efficiently address complex analytical challenges and ensure accurate data interpretation.
- Communication and Documentation: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively document procedures, results, and findings. Excellent report writing skills are required.
