For a fresher, the best bank is one that can receive your employer's payroll, is easy to use safely and has charges you understand. This decision is narrower than choosing the best bank in India. A bank can offer a good product that is unavailable under your employer's arrangement or unsuitable near your work location.
Salary-account annual-cost comparison
Compare two written fee quotations. Include applicable taxes in the amounts you enter; benefits and interest are not valued by this tool.
Annual cost = annual fees entered + monthly charge × charged months. Charges may use daily or average-balance rules; enter the bank-confirmed applicable charge. Zero defaults are examples and do not mean that either bank is universally free. Insurance payouts and promotional headline benefits are not cash savings.

Put practical access first
Check whether there is convenient branch or ATM access near your plant, training location or accommodation. Test whether the app and customer-support channels meet your needs without relying entirely on an onboarding salesperson. If you will relocate after training, consider the destination as well as your present city.
Use the official salary programmes from HDFC, ICICI, SBI and Axis to establish available products. Ask HR which programme and variant apply to your salary. A general bank comparison cannot establish those employer-specific terms.
Keep the first account simple
Ask which services are optional. An investment account, insurance policy or paid card should have its own clear purpose and cost. Do not accept a product solely because you have been told it is necessary for salary processing; confirm that point with HR and the bank's documented account requirements.
Set up alerts and learn the legitimate support route. Protect passwords and OTPs, and check statements. Keep enough money for scheduled payments. A first salary is also a useful time to distinguish salary, reimbursements and one-off joining payments, so a large first credit does not create an unrealistic monthly budget.
An example decision
Two banks are available through a fictional fresher's employer. Both provide suitable digital payments and confirmed salary terms. One has better access at the remote posting, while the other's main attraction is a travel privilege the employee will not use. Local access may reasonably decide the choice. This is a decision example, not a service-quality rating of any named bank.
Before the first payroll cut-off
Check the account number and IFSC in HR's records, confirm the activation status and keep a copy of the fee schedule. Ask what happens to the account if the job ends or salary credits stop. Use the bank's official application process and complete KYC directly; PharmaBharat does not collect account-opening documents or guarantee bank approval.
