A zero-balance salary account usually means the qualifying account does not require you to maintain a prescribed balance while salary conditions are met. It does not mean every transaction, card, optional service or period after employment is free. Compare the conditions behind the label before opening an account.
Salary-account annual-cost comparison
Compare two written fee quotations. Include applicable taxes in the amounts you enter; benefits and interest are not valued by this tool.
Annual cost = annual fees entered + monthly charge × charged months. Charges may use daily or average-balance rules; enter the bank-confirmed applicable charge. Zero defaults are examples and do not mean that either bank is universally free. Insurance payouts and promotional headline benefits are not cash savings.

Start with payroll compatibility
Ask HR which banks recognise your employer's salary payments and which variants are available at your salary level. Receiving an ordinary transfer into a savings account may not make it a salary account. This matters for freshers, outsourced employees and people moving between a staffing agency and a pharma company's direct payroll.
HDFC Regular Salary, ICICI Regular Salary, SBI Corporate Salary Package and Axis Salary Accounts provide official starting points. IDFC FIRST Bank also publishes a salary-account programme and separate charges. Availability through your employer and the final account variant determine whether an option belongs on your shortlist.
Ask five questions before signing
What counts as a qualifying salary credit? What is the minimum salary requirement? Are debit-card issuance and renewal included? Which transaction or service charges remain? What account and balance rules apply when salary credits stop? Record the answers from the current schedule, not a verbal assurance that the account is completely free.
An original cost comparison
Imagine two eligible accounts with identical payment facilities. Account A has no annual card cost under your corporate offer. Account B has an optional paid card whose perks you will not use. If all other factors are equal, paying for the optional card adds cost without improving your everyday banking. Conversely, a service you regularly need could justify a documented fee. Compare actual annual costs rather than awarding points for every advertised benefit.
Keep the account suitable after a job change
Update your contact details and keep the charge schedule. If your next employer uses another bank, ask the old bank about conversion, a suitable savings variant or closure after pending payments are settled. Do not abandon an account that still receives refunds or pays standing instructions.
Use the official links to review the account and begin an application. The bank, rather than PharmaBharat, completes KYC and decides eligibility.
