How to Apply for a Credit Card Through Your Company Salary Account

Your company salary account can provide an application route for a credit card, but it is not an entitlement to one. The issuer still assesses eligibility and credit risk. A bank employee saying that your company has an offer is a reason to check the written terms, not a reason to accept every product proposed.

Credit-card net-value calculator

Test one eligible reward category using your actual spending and the card terms. The default numbers are an illustration, not a product offer.

Monthly value = the lower of spend × rate and the cap entered; annual value assumes 12 identical months. Subtract actual annual costs. Convert points into rupee value before entering a rate. Shared caps, merchant exclusions, refunds, minimum redemption rules and different category rates require separate adjustments. A fee waiver must be confirmed before entering a zero fee.

Identify the offer before applying

Ask for the exact issuer, card name, joining fee, renewal fee and conditions for any waiver. Establish whether the offer is for all employees, selected salary bands or individually pre-approved customers. A personal credit card offered through payroll is also different from a company card used for authorised business expenses.

Prepare a clean application

Check that your identity and address details match current records. Gather the income and employment documents requested by the issuer. A recent joiner may need to explain a short salary history; submit the requested documents truthfully rather than treating an appointment letter as a guarantee of approval.

Apply through the bank's authenticated app, official site, branch or an independently verified corporate banking contact. Never send your banking password, PIN or OTP to a representative. An application fee or insurance purchase demanded by an unverified intermediary is not something to accept merely because they know your employer's name.

Read the borrowing terms

The RBI's credit-card guidance explains that paying only the minimum due can extend repayment and create significant interest costs. A salary-linked offer does not remove those costs. Understand the total amount due, interest terms, cash-advance charges and grievance route before activating a card.

Official routes to compare

For an eligible individual application, use HDFC Millennia, Amazon Pay ICICI, Axis's official card catalogue or SBI Card's product page. These links do not establish a corporate tie-up or a personalised offer for your employer.

If declined, ask about the reason and check the accuracy of the information supplied. Repeatedly applying for unrelated cards is unlikely to solve an underlying income, documentation or credit-history problem. Keep a copy of the accepted offer so later fees can be checked against what you agreed.

Pre-approved, eligible and approved are different

An eligibility checker indicates whether you may fit a product's stated conditions. A pre-approved offer can still have conditions, expiry and verification steps. Final approval follows the issuer's process and determines the actual card and limit. An employer relationship can provide a route to an offer, but it does not replace that decision.

Ask the representative to identify which type of offer you have. Request a document or authenticated offer screen showing the exact card, fee treatment and any salary-credit condition. A statement that all employees get a free card is incomplete if the written offer says only the first year is free or requires spending for renewal.

Documents and common application problems

Use the issuer's requested identity, address and income documents. Check that names, employment dates and salary figures are consistent. If you recently switched employers, explain why older statements show another payroll name. If you are on agency payroll, identify the legal employer accurately instead of replacing it with the better-known client brand.

A mismatch does not justify altering a payslip or inventing a tenure. Correct the record or ask which alternative document is accepted. Track the application reference and use the issuer's official status tool. If a request is declined, investigate the stated issue before submitting several similar applications.

Personal card versus business expenses

A personal salary-linked card is not automatically authorised for every company expense. Read the issuer's permitted-use terms and your employer's expense policy. If a permitted reimbursable purchase is paid personally, keep enough funds to pay the card bill even when reimbursement is delayed. A corporate card has its own liability and repayment arrangement, which must be read separately.

After the card arrives

Inspect the actual joining fee, billing date, limit and controls. Set an affordable repayment process and check the first statement. Keep the corporate offer so a later annual fee can be compared with the agreement. Never assume that a new salary account or a salary increase automatically changes the card's existing terms. Use the issuer's official channel for a written clarification or complaint.
