Applications are invited for a Medical Information Specialist (MIS) opportunity in India. This full-time position is suitable for candidates with a Life Science, Nursing, or Pharmacy degree who have strong knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, drug safety, and medical information processes.

The Medical Information Specialist works within a Medical Information Contact Center and is responsible for responding to medical and safety enquiries from healthcare professionals, consumers, and other external customers. The role also involves identifying and documenting adverse events, pregnancy reports, special situation events, and product quality complaints according to applicable regulations, SOPs, and client procedures.

Key Responsibilities

As a Medical Information Specialist, selected candidates will be responsible for:

  • Responding to unsolicited medical and safety information enquiries from healthcare professionals, consumers, and other external customers.
  • Handling enquiries received through telephone, email, websites, letters, fax, and scientific meetings.
  • Providing accurate labeled and unlabeled medical and safety information in accordance with regulatory requirements and approved procedures.
  • Using approved product labeling, standard response documents, published scientific literature, and other authorized sources to formulate responses.
  • Supporting the preparation of customized medical information responses when required.
  • Identifying and documenting Adverse Events (AEs) accurately.
  • Recording pregnancy reports and other reportable special situations.
  • Identifying and documenting Product Quality Complaints (PQCs).
  • Reporting safety information according to applicable government regulations, SOPs, and client Working Practices.
  • Logging enquiries accurately and within required timelines in Inquiry Handling Systems.
  • Performing quality checks on adverse event reports, product complaints, correspondence, and medical enquiries.
  • Maintaining high standards of accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Following applicable data privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Providing rotational after-hours coverage when required by business needs.
  • Completing assigned activities within established timelines and quality standards.

Qualification & Eligibility

Candidates must have one of the following educational backgrounds:

Life Science Degree OR Nursing Degree (RN/BS/BA/MS) OR Pharmacy Degree

Relevant Indian qualifications may therefore include B.Pharm, M.Pharm, Pharm.D, B.Sc/M.Sc in relevant Life Science disciplines, B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing, and other equivalent eligible Nursing/Life Science qualifications, subject to the employer’s assessment.

Candidates should also possess:

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Understanding of pharmacology and pathophysiology.
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good English language proficiency.
  • Professional telephone communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to communicate empathetically with customers.
  • Strong proofreading and documentation skills.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, and verbal reasoning abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities within strict timelines.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Technical Skills

Candidates should be comfortable using:

  • Microsoft Office applications

  • Medical Information / Inquiry Handling databases
  • Electronic documentation and reporting systems
