Job Overview: Dy. Manager / Manager – API Projects
This crucial leadership position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with extensive experience in managing complex API projects from conception to completion. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams, overseeing all aspects of project execution, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget while adhering to stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership & Execution: Lead and mentor project teams, fostering a collaborative environment to ensure seamless execution and timely delivery of API projects. This includes proactive problem-solving and risk management.
- Detailed Engineering Oversight: Supervise and review all aspects of detailed engineering, including mass and energy balance calculations, equipment design specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM) development, process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), layout design, and other critical engineering deliverables.
- Technological Advancement & Process Improvement: Continuously assess and implement new technologies and process improvements to enhance facility efficiency, optimize production processes, and reduce costs. This includes staying abreast of industry best practices and regulatory updates.
- Project Planning & Coordination: Develop comprehensive project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans. Effectively coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, procurement, and quality control, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Technical Documentation Review: Thoroughly review and approve all technical documents, including P&IDs, PFDs, layouts, data sheets, and other relevant documentation, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Champion a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring adherence to all relevant health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, regulations (like CGMP), and industry best practices. Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
- Cost Optimization & Energy Efficiency: Drive initiatives to reduce project costs and improve energy efficiency throughout the project lifecycle. Implement strategies for cost reduction and energy conservation.
- Process Optimization & Improvement: Lead process optimization activities focused on improving yield, solvent recovery, and reducing batch times. Utilize data analysis and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to drive continuous improvement.
- Team Training & Development: Provide ongoing training to team members on new technologies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory requirements, and quality systems. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Project Closure & Documentation: Ensure proper project closure activities are completed, including documentation, final reports, and handover to operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. An advanced degree (M.E., M.Tech., MS) is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in project management within the pharmaceutical or chemical industry, with a strong focus on API manufacturing. Direct experience managing API projects is essential.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, process design, equipment selection, and project management methodologies. Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Aspen Plus, MS Project).
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver results under pressure.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with various stakeholders, including senior management, technical staff, and external contractors.
