The Tasmanian Health Service (THS) is dedicated to providing top-tier healthcare services across Tasmania, contributing to the well-being of its residents. The THS is seeking motivated individuals to join its Health Information Management Services (HIMS) team as Clinical Documentation Specialists. This role is integral to improving patient safety, service planning, and quality management, while supporting clinical documentation and coding initiatives.
Job Responsibilities: As a Clinical Documentation Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Developing and monitoring clinical documentation integrity programs to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of health records.
- Auditing current inpatients’ clinical documentation to ensure safety and proper clinical coding, including Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) allocations under Activity Based Funding (ABF) models.
- Providing feedback and education to clinical and coding staff on the relationship between clinical documentation and data integrity.
- Collaborating with clinical teams to conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of patient records.
- Implementing clinical documentation quality strategies across North, North West, and South Hospitals, including the creation of educational resources.
- Supporting clinical teams in making patient care decisions through accurate documentation.
Qualifications:
- Desirable qualifications include Clinical Documentation Certification, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or qualifications in Health Information Management, Clinical Coding, Nursing, Allied Health, or Medicine.
- Knowledge of clinical documentation practices, clinical coding, and health information management processes.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Skills Required:
- Expertise in clinical documentation and coding standards.
- Ability to provide education and feedback to clinical staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to audit and assess the accuracy of medical records.
Employment Details:
- Position Type: Full-time and part-time positions are available.
- Location: Statewide, including Level 2, F Block, Collins St.
- Salary: $104,756 – $118,730 per annum, with an additional 11.5% superannuation contribution.
