Key Responsibilities and Required Skills
Successful candidates will be responsible for a wide range of activities within the discovery chemistry department, including but not limited to:
- Organic Synthesis & Multi-step Synthesis: Designing, executing, and optimizing multi-step organic syntheses. Experience with various reaction conditions and techniques is crucial. The ability to scale up reactions from milligram to kilogram quantities is highly desirable.
- Purification & Characterization: Proficiency in isolation, separation, and purification techniques, including chromatography (e.g., flash column chromatography, preparative HPLC). Expertise in the characterization of organic molecules using a range of analytical techniques is essential.
- Analytical Techniques: Deep understanding and practical experience with NMR, IR, LCMS, and HPLC techniques for structural elucidation and purity assessment. The ability to interpret and analyze spectroscopic data accurately is vital.
- Laboratory Management: Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment, adhering to safety protocols, and meticulously documenting experimental procedures and results.
- Collaboration & Communication: Working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to project discussions, and clearly communicating research findings, both verbally and in written reports.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot problems, adapt experimental procedures as needed, and make sound judgments in a fast-paced research environment.
