Role Overview – Assistant Editor:
Springer Nature is seeking an Assistant Editor in Pune to oversee manuscript processing from submission to final decision. The role ensures that high-quality manuscripts progress efficiently through the peer review process while maintaining editorial standards, ethical compliance, and journal scope alignment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Checks & Suitability Assessment
- Conduct editorial checks to verify manuscript compliance with journal guidelines.
- Identify and prevent plagiarism, duplicate manuscripts, and paper mill submissions.
- Ensure ethical standards are applied in human, animal, and plant research.
- Align manuscripts with journal scope and focus.
- Manuscript Pipeline Management
- Manage the manuscript pipeline from submission to final decision.
- Monitor adherence to turnaround times (TAT) and resolve delays.
- Editor Assignment & Support
- Invite and assign manuscripts to Editors based on expertise.
- Ensure timely action by Editors and provide support throughout the peer review process.
- Communication Management
- Handle emails and correspondence with authors, reviewers, editors, and vendors.
- Provide professional updates on manuscript progress and decisions.
- Final Decision Assessment & Monitoring
- Review and communicate final decisions (accept, revise, reject).
- Ensure EBMs’ decisions comply with guidelines.
- Monitor peer review progress to ensure timely completion.
- Mentorship & Process Improvement
- Mentor new team members and guide them through editorial workflows.
- Suggest improvements to reduce turnaround time and enhance manuscript management.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in Medicine, Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, or HSS.
- Minimum 2 years of experience, with at least 1 year in scientific publishing.
- Knowledge of publishing and peer review systems.
- Strong analytical, communication, and business etiquette skills.
- Experience in manuscript handling (especially transfers) is a plus.
- Subject matter expertise in STEM (Medicine, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences).
