Responsibilities in the Role

As a Process Development Scientist I, you will play a key role in Bayer’s Crop Protection Innovation team. Your primary focus will be on route scouting and chemical process development for existing and pipeline crop protection agents. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting Advanced Research:
    • Developing innovative synthetic routes and associated manufacturing processes.
    • Performing experiments for route scouting, process optimization, and safety evaluation.
    • Inventing robust and cost-effective processes for manufacturing crop protection agents.
  2. Experimental Design and Execution:
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including analytical chemists and process engineers.
    • Designing and executing multi-step experimental studies for efficient, safe, and scalable processes.
  3. Data Analysis and Optimization:
    • Interpreting experimental data and using it to drive future experiments.
    • Providing technical updates, recommendations, and documentation for process optimization.
  4. Collaboration and Continuous Learning:
    • Staying updated on advancements in synthetic methodologies and applying them to challenges.
    • Actively participating in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) discussions to improve practices.

Qualifications for the Role

To excel as a Process Development Scientist I, you’ll need the following qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
    • M.Sc./M.Pharm in Organic Chemistry with 8+ years of experience.
    • Alternatively, a fresh PhD or PostDoc in Organic Chemistry.
  • Skills and Expertise:
    • Proficiency in multistep synthesis of complex organic molecules.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of modern synthetic methodologies, reaction mechanisms, and retrosynthesis.
    • Expertise in chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, including NMR and Mass Spectroscopy.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Strong problem-solving and data interpretation skills.
    • A proactive approach to learning and a willingness to embrace challenging experiences.
    • Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with diverse teams.
