Scope
This role is responsible for executing chemical reactions to synthesize required quantities of molecules/compounds as per client specifications using efficient routes and techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Synthesis of Target Molecules/Compounds
- Set-up and execute reactions based on project requirements as specified by clients, including the synthetic route.
- Discuss and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with team members.
- Identify and mitigate potential safety risks with the assistance of a supervisor.
- Plan and execute reactions using appropriate reagents and equipment (glassware, stirrers, vacuum pumps, etc.) while maintaining specified conditions (temperature, pressure, etc.) for optimum usage and minimum waste.
- Ensure parallel execution of multiple reactions.
- Monitor the reaction progress using analytical techniques.
- Identify and execute suitable workup and purification techniques to produce an intermediary or final compound of desired quality.
- Analyze analytical data, evaluate and interpret results from the synthesis, and prepare reports.
- Meet productivity benchmarks on:
- Number of reactions
- Number of steps
- Number of compounds
- Quality and purity of compounds
- Project timelines
Safety and Quality Assurance
- Follow safety and quality systems in the labs to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain and utilize equipment, apparatus, and instruments per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and general housekeeping norms.
Record Maintenance and Data Integrity
- Document executed reactions, research findings, and observations accurately in lab notebooks to ensure data integrity.
- Maintain strict IP confidentiality and adhere to all related policies.
- Prepare final reports as required.
Team Development and Morale
- Enhance knowledge of organic chemistry (particularly synthesis) and analytical techniques through:
- One-on-one discussions with supervisors
- Regular classroom training
- Project training
- Further education programs
Functional/Technical Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of Chemistry & Execution.
- Familiarity with Safety Protocols.
- Understanding of IP & Confidentiality and Data Integrity.
- Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis and optimize resource usage.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
- M.Sc. in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry with 1 to 5 years of relevant experience.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates with research publications in leading journals will be preferred.
