The Human Genome Lab is at the forefront of innovative studies in human genetics, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and precision medicine.
We are excited to announce an opening for a Senior Genome Analyst to become part of our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects involving germline, somatic, and cancer genomics, while collaborating with leading experts in the field. If you have strong expertise in NGS data analysis, variant interpretation, and bioinformatics, this position is ideal for contributing to groundbreaking research and clinical applications in genomic medicine.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform detailed analysis and interpretation of NGS data, including whole exome sequencing (WES), whole genome sequencing (WGS), and targeted panels for germline, somatic, and cancer cases, strictly adhering to ACMG/AMP guidelines.
- Prepare precise clinical reports within specified turnaround times (TAT).
- Utilize key genomic databases and browsers such as ClinVar, OMIM, gnomAD, and UCSC Genome Browser for variant annotation and classification.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, genetic counselors, and patient families to discuss findings and resolve clinical queries.
- Conduct quality control on sequencing data to ensure analytical validity and reliability.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of human genetics, molecular biology, and disease mechanisms.
- Keep abreast of the latest guidelines, literature, and advancements in genomic medicine.
- Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
- Uphold strict patient confidentiality and data security protocols.
- Contribute to research initiatives, manuscript writing, scientific publications, and validation/functional studies.
- For bioinformatics-focused candidates: Process raw FASTQ files through QC pipelines, align reads (using tools like BWA, Bowtie2), perform variant calling (GATK or equivalent), annotate variants, and implement/optimize bioinformatics pipelines. Experience with transcriptomics, RNA-seq, PLINK, and scripting in Python, R, or Perl on Linux is highly valued.
Required Qualifications
- MSc in Genetics or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience in variant interpretation.
- MSc/MTech in Bioinformatics with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in NGS bioinformatics.
- OR PhD in Genetics, Bioinformatics, or related field (fresh PhD graduates are welcome to apply).
- Strong proficiency in NGS data analysis tools and pipelines.
- Excellent analytical, computational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to ethical standards in research and patient data handling.
Salary, Benefits, and Employment Details
- Employment Type: Full-time position in the Human Genome Lab at NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
- Salary Range: ₹50,000 – ₹80,000 per month (based on qualifications, experience, and institute norms; includes allowances as applicable for government/academic roles).
